FREE Foreclosure Prevention Counseling

St. Petersburg Neighborhood Housing Services (SPNHS) is funded in part through the National Foreclosure Counseling Program and has provided FREE foreclosure prevention counseling to over 1200 homeowners in Tampa Bay during the past two years. This program was developed to assist the large number of homeowners behind on their mortgages due to the devastating effects of the current economic recession.

A recent government survey of 400,000 homeowners who sought FREE foreclosure prevention counseling through the program found that over 76% were able to keep their homes. Troubled mortgage holders are strongly encouraged to seek counseling early to have the best chance of avoiding foreclosure. There is no need to pay a private company for these services.

To provide you the best chance of avoiding foreclosure, we recommend you complete our Three Step Program.

STEP 1

  • Register for a Foreclosure Prevention Workshop

If you’re behind on mortgage payments or received a default notice, we recommend you register to attend one of our Foreclosure Prevention Workshops. These workshops are designed to provide struggling homeowners an overview of the foreclosure process and offer individual counseling opportunities to develop an action plan to avoid foreclosure.

Foreclosure Prevention Workshops are offered each Monday evening from 6:00pm-7:30pm. Click here to register. Select one of the dates listed and complete the Registration Form. You will receive an RSVP to confirm your registration.

STEP 2

  • Complete the Foreclosure Prevention Intake Packet

In order to provide the most effective service, we need you to complete a Foreclosure Prevention Intake Packet. Receiving this information is essential to help resolve your mortgage situation. We cannot develop an appropriate action plan unless we have a complete and accurate picture of your financial situation.

Click here to download the Foreclosure Prevention Intake Packet. Please print the documents, complete the information and provide copies of the documents requested. Bring a completed packet when you attend our Foreclosure Prevention Workshop. You can also Mail or Fax completed packets to:

    ST. PETERSBURG, FL 33701
    OFFICE (727) 821-6897 FAX (727) 821-7457

STEP 3

  • Schedule a Foreclosure Counseling Session

After attending our workshop and completing the intake packet, one of our HUD Certified Counselors will schedule a confidential, one-on-one counseling session to review your current financial situation with you and develop a workable plan to help you avoid foreclosure. Our counselors will:

    • Review your income and expenses to help develop a realistic budget.
    • Discuss alternative options to avoid foreclosure.
    • Determine the cause of the delinquency and develop an action plan to cure the delinquency and, if possible, avoid foreclosure.
    • Present alternative strategies and discuss potential consequences if we’re unable to provide assistance.

If you have any questions, please contact admin@stpetenhs.org, or (727) 821-6897 ext.106. We understand you’re in a difficult situation and promise to do our best to find a resolution to keep your home!
